Worship at Mililani Presbyterian Church

Worship provides an opportunity for members, friends and visitors to experience and participate in worship and praise to God. We worship in the name of Jesus Christ since it is through him alone that we have the personal assurance of God’s love, forgiveness and salvation. We confess him to be our Lord and Savior, the one and only Son of God.

Worship includes the sharing of church family news, hymns and spiritual songs, prayers of adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication, assurance of forgiveness, an offering, a reading from the Bible and a message of instruction or inspiration from the pastor. Child care is available (but not required!) for both infants and toddlers Click here for more information about child care.

Special occasions (such as Baptism, welcome of new members, ordination of elders/deacons) are also part of worship as are Special Offerings. Most months follow a pattern similar to the following. And, of course, there is a special time between Worship and Sunday School for fellowship with your Christian brothers and sisters. Child Care
We employ paid, trained child-care providers for both our infant and toddler groups. Parents are always welcome to stay with their children if they desire although “coming and going” is not encouraged. Some parents prefer to have their young children in worship with them and we leave this decision to them. During 9:00 am worship on Sundays we offer both an infant group (birth-2 years) and a toddler group (3-5 years). During the Sunday School hour, 10:30-11:30 am, we continue with an infant group but the toddler group becomes our youngest Sunday School class. Our CE Director oversees the child-care providers who are also present at other church events during the year.

Children’s Church
This is an alternate worship experience for children ages K-3 rd grade. Approximately 1/3 to 1/2-way through the morning worship these children are excused for their own program. They say the Lord’s Prayer together, sing the Doxology and take their own offering (which is used to support two World Vision children). Singing and a short lesson activity is also included. Children’s Church does not meet on the first Sunday of each month so that baptized children, at the discretion of their parents, may participate in the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.

Sunday Fellowship

This special time between Worship and Sunday School gives everyone a chance to say "Hello" and catch up on personal and church business. Coffee, juice and other snacks are offered on the church lanai, hosted by a volunteer family or individual each week. For more about fellowship, click here.

Needs/Special Offerings

Twice each year we receive special denominational offeings.

On Palm Sunday we receive the One Great Hour of Sharing offering. This offering is divided up between the Hunger Program, The Self-developement of People Program and The Disaster Assistance Fund.

On the Sunday before Christmas, we receive the Christmas Joy Offering. Half of this offering goes to our denomination's racial/ethnic secondary schools & colleges and the other half goes to support the pensions of retired pastors and missionaries whose retirement income is otherwise insufficient.

We may also receive other special offerings as emergency needs arise unexpectedly during the year.

The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper
It is celebrated during worship on the first Sunday of each month. It is also celebrated on Maundy Thursday, Thanksgiving Eve and, when appropriate, at other church events during the year. In this Sacrament the invitation is extended to us by Jesus Christ to come to His Table. Baptized children are invited to participate in the Sacrament (at the discretion of their parents) as are all adults who put their trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and who claim him as their Lord. Our custom is for the Elders and Deacons to pass the bread that is then dipped into the cup that follows. This form of Communion is called “intinction,” which means, appropriately, “to dip.”

The Sacrament of Baptism
It is celebrated in obedience to the resurrected Christ, who commanded his followers to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” We offer this sacrament to any youth or adult who makes a personal confession of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (and has not previously received Christian baptism). We also offer Baptism to infants and younger children of believing parents (one of who shall ordinarily be a member of this church or other congregation). Baptism is usually by sprinkling although other forms of baptism are also considered to be appropriate.

Confirmation classes for Junior Highers are offered as part of their Sunday School program every other year.
