Pastor Ron is a graduate of Union Presbyterian Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina, class of 2009. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church USA and first served as the solo stated supply pastor for Immanuel Presbyterian Church in China Grove from 2011 to 2013.
Ron answered the call to go back to Hawaii to serve as installed pastor at Mililani Presbyterian church in August of 2013. His dramatic conversion, his reformation period, his call to the ministry, and his vision for his mission are all reminiscent of the apostle Paul. The call of the Lord reached Ron through a television ministry channel one evening when he was home alone just channel surfing. Although he was raised in the Catholic Church as a child and his wife Margie was raised in a Baptist home, neither of them had been attending church for many years. Within six months of his conversion experience, they found a Presbyterian Church home in Charlotte and Ron’s pathway to ministry evolved quickly. That was a bountiful and blessed period where the Lord led him in the decision to become a minister and in the writing of numerous original songs.
Ron entered Union Presbyterian Seminary in Charlotte at age 55. He completed the course of study for his Masters of Divinity degree while working part-time for IBM. In the fall of 2007, he traveled to Hawaii to complete his parish internship at First Presbyterian Church at Kooloau. He did a second internship at downtown Charlotte’s Presbyterian main hospital. After a two year period of supply preaching at various churches in the greater Charlotte area, on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 13, members of Immanuel gathered at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church. Pastor Ron was ordained at his former home church where he received the fellowship and community of faith support to enter and complete his work through seminary.
On Sundays, Ron glides easily between the pulpit and the piano at Mililani Presbyterian Church where he began his ministry on August 15th, 2013. Some of his diverse musical offerings bear similar stylistic remnants of his past musical performances and experience.
Ron was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and spent most of his work life as a performing musician. He sings and plays multiple instruments and you might have seen him on drums with the Don Ho show in the 1990’s. In his performing travels he has entertained throughout the United States, the orient, Australia, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. He is a graduate of USC School of Music in Los Angeles.
Ron loves playing golf, traveling in the U.S. and abroad, and enjoys working on home projects. Both he and Margie used to take care of a family of squirrels, chipmunks, and birds that were frequent visitors in their back yard in Charlotte, and they now reside near the church on Akaku Street in Mililani.
